TWAS THE MEMORIES OF MY GRAND PARENTS HOUSE

This is a story of many years ago. It started early one morning when my innocents was a part of my life. I smelled the bacon and the eggs that mom was cooking. I knew that this was the morning that all children look forward too every year. I could here my sisters saying "look at the tree". My body wanted to rise but my eyes had not yet opened so I could walk. My sisters ran to my room and proceeded to wake me up and drag me to the living room at the same time. When my eyes opened, I could see my dad siting in his chair, and my mother with her apron on looking at me with a smile that only parents can have. Then as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and tried to stand. Believe me that the people that invented the one piece footie sleepwear for small kids, have never tried to stand or even walk in them. The clothing just looks good on me, because I am the cutest boy that had to wear them.(haha) Then with a mighty tug from my sister, I was whorled around and there in front of me was what I had hoped and paid Santa for. (my last 2 cookies and a 1/2 glass of milk) MY FIRST BICYCLE. It was everything I wanted, it was red with 2 big lights on the front,2 large wheels, a ringy thing to alert everyone that I was coming, chrome handles. Those last cookies were worth it. I ran and got dressed and took out my new bicycle and exhausted myself and then came in and ate the food that woke me up the the best day of my life. Then we sat down as a family and handed all of the rest of the presents out. The tree was packed with what looked like hundreds of wrapped gifts. Each of my sisters got what they wanted. Did they leave cookies also?? Boy, Santa really scored at this house. Mom,dad,2 sisters and me that is 10 cookies, and a lot of milk. Does this happen at all of the houses on my street? If so, no wonder Santa is so big. I think this is when the innocents of a young boy turns to understand what life is all about. The gifts under the tree all had tags that had were printed in a handwriting that was known to me. (To,David From Mom.) I thought that Santa brought the gifts that were carefully positioned under the tree. Then when we handed the gifts out mom handed me a gift to give dad. the tag said To dad From david and it was in my handwriting. Boy Santa is good, he can write like me. Then as the gifts were given out each of us said thank you to all, for the gifts. I thought to myself did I get all of the gifts that had my name on them. How did I know what my sisters wanted, or even what my parents wanted? These were questions that would be answered later in the day at my Grandparents house.
Later in the day we all knew that the trip to Grandma's house was about to come. The long ride in the back of my dads 51 chev. I could tell when we were about there because the long road off the highway started with a bump on a dirt road the had a long chicken house on the left. then the long downward hill to the bottom where the kudzoo covered the pipe across the creek. Then up the hill, and the long tall pines on both sides of the road could be seen. The road was sand with spots of grass in the middle with pot holes along the way. Then I could here my cousins playing outside there house with the Christmas gifts they received that morning. I knew that we were almost there. I was looking for the little white house with smoke coming out of the chimney, and the porch that Grandpa always stood waiting for us to come. The yard had three large oak trees and the sand. All of the grand kids loved that, because we used the front yard as a playground. The yard was full with as many cars as it could hold. I could here Grandpa say "glad you came come on in". So we unpacked all of the gifts and the food that was left from lunch. We entered the white house where Grandma lived and smelled the wood heater that heated the house and where all would set around and talk. The smell of food that grandma was preparing in the kitchen would let me know that this was the place that i loved to come. When Grandma knew that we were there, I hoped the hug that only Grandma could give was to come. Then it was time to scope out the long table with all of the food on was. This was told to me by my uncle, "we men look at the table and know where the good stuff is". That way when it is time to eat we go straight to what will fill our plate. I listened very closely because his plate was the biggest, tallest, and had all the good stuff on it. What really got me thinking was why every time we started to eat he would say "Man with a Baby coming though" it always worked, all cousins and aunts, uncles, moved to the side. When I looked there was no baby! I think this was a trick that worked, so I just got on his heals and followed him to the table. My innocents came to light, I was the baby!! My uncle used me. I felt that he was trying so teach me, or was he???
After the meal was done and all was stuffed we sat down, and a play was given by all of the cousins, and it was good. All of the uncles, aunts, and cousins got quiet because we knew that we were about to here a poem by my aunt. I would close my eyes and here her lovely voice start the poem,"Twas the night before Christmas". I felt that I in the poem she recited, because we were home, and living what she recited. My innocents was still with me, and I believed that life was like the poem we just listened to. When all was done, the cousins were chosen and the gifts were given out. It seemed strange that Santa knew we would be there. I was confused, and my aunt knew there was a question in my eyes. She asked what was wrong? I asked her how did Santa know we all would be here? See explained that Santa needed help and we all helped Santa by giving presents to the ones we love. At that point in my life, my innocents was gone and my heart was filled with the love of Christmas.
As I looked around the house where my Grandparents lived, and saw Grandma in her chair near the Christmas tree, and Grandpa in the room with the wood heater talking with all of the men. All of the cousins running and playing, and all of the aunts sitting by the table I knew that this was a memory that would be within me till the day I leave this earth, to join the ones I love.
So, as I look down from my house on top of the hill. I can see the place where my Grandparents once lived. Even though the house is gone, The memories of that place on God's earth will never be forgotten.

FROM POP IN TENTS TO MOBILE CAMPING DEVICES

Hello Readers,
We found out that tent camping was fun years ago,but as we get older the fun is being able to get up off the ground, and be able to walk! You have heard of the term "Roll out of Bed". I think that phrase was invented by a 55 year old tent camper. You roll out of the sleeping bag, and there you are, on all fours. Then you sit back on your heals, and ask God, "Please, God let me stand and walk out to the warm fire." Then you get out to the fire and someone let the fire go out. Knowing that your old bones need heat NOW! You get back down on all fours again, and ask God "Please let there be hot coals!" By this time your little angle is sent out of the tent and the little voice says "grandpa whats wrong, want me to get the fire going?" Then the idea comes to you, yes there is a greater reason we brought you. Then as you tell the little angel to blow on the last red coal. With all of his might he blows all of the ashes in your face! Then the little angel starts to laugh and thinks this is good. Now, no one has wakened grandma, but as you clean the ashed out of your face you here the dreaded CLICK. The camera bandit has saved this for all time. Well the fire is finely going and you are standing again. All is good, nope! Here you stand and the coffee is made by the lady of the house (TENT). Now there you stand with a hot cup of coffee and a hot fire. Then you start the elderly hot fire dance. You put the left foot in, you take the left foot out, you put the right foot in ,you take the right foot out. You do the Hokie-pokie and you shake it all about. (Remember that??)
Well, now to the real reason we got a mobile camping device (called RV). I have a uncle called "Jack". Everyone has one of these. The life of the party, the one you never let know about a stupid idea or statement you have made. Jack will never let you forget it, and reminds you at the wrong times. He showed us his "mobile camping device". It was beautiful and no "Rolling out of bed". It is a 24 foot Pace Arrow. Comes with the devices that makes camping fun. A automatic Coffee device, sleeping device, and the most important device, a heater! No more ashes in the face and blowing, and blowing, and blowing! Well, now I have succeeded in convincing the boss, well Jack did. (Thanks Jack) The words that all men want to here "Honey we need one of these". Off to the shopping fun. Well we find a 38 foot National RV. It was very nice, and Jack helped us by looking at the RV. We buy, and our days of "Rolling out of bed" is over.
Our first trip is to The Oaks at Point South, in S.C. All of the sights have pull -thru and are flat. This is good for the first timers. We level, we hook up. we pop out. All is good. Now time for the man to cook. It was good. Now the boss says it's time to walk, and walk, and walk. Our trip was great, and we love the lifestyle. We are about to retire and are looking to start "Full time camping". There are places that God has made that we want to see. We love our first RV, but there are a few things that need to be adjusted to. The bed room is for people that are not thick, but very very thin. We tried to change clothes in the bed room and ended up landing on the bed. We found out that only one at a time, and dress in the bathroom area. The next thing that we noticed was wrong, was that we changed, after watching TV. Sandra ended looking up, and I always looked over my left shoulder hours after we stopped watching. Our necks got stuck in that position. Well after many bengay rubs we decided to look for a different RV with the larger Bedroom, and the TV across from the couch at eye level. We found our "mobile camping device"
It's a 40 foot Winnebago Tour Coach with 4 slides. Bedroom has changing room and TV is right where we can watch without the bengay rub.
In our next Post we will talk about some of the trips we have taken. We will show some of the pic's and as always spread some laughs.

THE OAKS 9-3-10

Hi All,
We are camping in The Oaks of Point South, S.C. The weather is great and plenty of sun shine. We travel several times here because the campground has pull thru sights, and they are very flat. This is a travel stop for the snow birds heading to Florida. We like it because it is close to several places we like to visit. We always like to visit a Hunting Island State Park. It has the best beaches and Light house (very tall). This time of year there are Sand Dollars on the beach everywhere you look. We collected about 75 small ones and large ones. The storm must have washed them up. Star Fish were all over the rocks. First time to see so many. The forest on the island is beautiful with board walks and very tall trees and little deer that just stand and look at you. Watch out for the skeeter's, they love the other white meat.
The other place we like to go is Savannah, Ga. The river street is a great place to go and just watch the boats. I think someone is on our boat!! Ha Ha. The day and night cruses on the Savannah River Boat are the best. Stop by the nut store and try all the samples I did twice and started to go around again, and the eyes started to look at me. I did go and get two chocolate covered cashews. One for me and then another, then Sandra asked me when I got back to her did I get her one. Well dear it was too small to taste so I just ate both of them. It was best for her. We got caught in the rain and lightening storm, but then we started to walk again.
This was a short ten day trip, that went by very fast. We will be back some day and travel to another destination. Our next trip will be a short trip we like, Table Rock,S.C. Hope to write a interesting blog then. See Ya!

OUR RETIREMENT BEGINNING

Hi Campers,
Well the time that most of us work our entire life has come (sort of ).  I have sorta retired. I have to take a 15 day leave (without pay). Then I can return to work long enough to sell our house, and pay off some bills and build a nest egg (rebuild our savings account). Our house is in a beautiful place (Tryon N.C.) with a view of a lake and looks out over miles and miles of Gods beautiful country.
Our retirement trip had many destinations and possibilities but we decided to go to Beaufort for the two weeks.
First, we went to The Oaks at Point South Campground, and set up the coach and met the staff, and all of the campers in the park. It is nice how of all the campers stop what they are doing and wave or walk by your coach and say high. What is so funny about this is, I caught myself doing the same thing. I think that most campers like to meet everyone and see where they from. I also like to see what the new coach's, 5th wheel, TT are, and I love to see those little trailer's. I have often wonder, what it would be like to camp in one of those. What do you do in case of rain? Do you invite friends in for a drink? Where do you put the table? Now for the most important question for the men is, where do you put the 52 inch TV??? I also look on how they set up there camp sight. Does the lady camper hang out there plants and place the tablecloth on the table, set out the chairs, place the street light out with the wooden name plaque? Each camper is different on how they set up there camp sight, and it gives me some ideas for our little set up.
This is the proper way to get caught at work!
The next few days I cleaned the rims and tires on the coach. They look better and I am sure tired (arms and shoulders). I did all of the " honey do list" and sat down and just enjoyed the squirrels and the birds singing in the trees. Sandra and I walk 3 miles in the morning and ride our bikes the same distance in the afternoon. Well to tell the truth I attempt to do this exercise every day. Well the squirrels need attention to\!
We did our first trip and went to Beaufort and enjoyed a day of window shopping and sitting on the bay front and  enjoyed the people fishing and sitting on the swings and watching the boats going in and out of the bay. We always take a day and go to the beach and we like Hunting Island Beach. It is not crowded and there is plenty of tables to eat on. Plus if you really feel good you can climb the lighthouse. The view from the top is a view like no other. The camping on the island is a State park, and the park is able to handle any size of camper. Just make sure that you get your reservations  in early. The park is next to the ocean and you are just a short walk away. It has a great store and plenty of families having a great time.
It has been two weeks and I am tired and must take a long nap.  We will be leaving on Friday and I must get my rest to drive 4 hours back home. We have met several campers and hope that we meet on the road again. Each time we talk to campers we learn something new. Like what campgrounds not to stay in, and what roads that are the best to go on, to the next campground. If you are lucky you learn a new way to prepare your favorite steak, soup,or even a complete meal in a crockpot!!
